The two pricing models, and which one you want
Everything in Dubai’s desert safari market is one of two things.
Per person, shared vehicle. You buy a seat. The vehicle also carries other parties, the pickup route collects them all, and the camp seats you together. The number looks small because it is one seat.
Per vehicle, private. You buy the car, the driver-guide and the trip. The number looks larger because it covers everyone in it. Split four ways it usually is not larger at all.
The table above is generated from the live rate on each safari page, so it cannot go stale relative to what you actually pay at checkout.
Where the money actually goes
For a private safari, the real cost structure is roughly:
- The vehicle and the driver-guide for the whole evening. This is most of it. A 4x4 rated for dune driving, maintained for it, with a driver permitted to do it, doing one trip that night rather than three.
- The permit. Dune driving in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve and the other permitted belts is licensed, and the licence is not free.
- Camp capacity. A private table and a set menu take a slot that could have seated four shared guests.
- The pickup. A dedicated run to your hotel rather than a six-stop loop.
That is why a private safari costs what it does, and why the cheapest end of the market can only exist as shared seats.
Why the very cheap tours are cheap
They are not lying, they are unbundling. The typical pattern is a headline per-person figure that excludes:
- Hotel pickup outside a narrow central zone, or pickup at all
- The camp dinner — sold as an upgrade at the camp
- Camp entry or seating, in some cases
- Quad biking, camel rides and sandboarding, sold individually on site
- Water and soft drinks
By the time a family of four has added the things they assumed were included, the gap to a private vehicle has closed a long way. The useful move is not to distrust the low number; it is to read the inclusion list line by line and compare like with like.
Working out which is cheaper for you
Take the per-person shared price, multiply by your group size, and add the extras you would actually buy. Compare that with the per-vehicle price. For one or two people, shared wins on cash. For four it is close. For five or six, or any group with children, private normally wins on both cash and experience.
If you are more than six, you are into multi-vehicle group pricing, which is still per vehicle and goes through as a single booking.
What you are charged, and in what currency
AED, always. This site can display prices in SAR, GBP, EUR, USD and RUB because that is how people compare, but those are indicative conversions. The charge that reaches your card is in AED, and the schema on every product page states AED for the same reason.
Deposit or full payment
Both are offered. A deposit holds the date and the balance is settled on the day; paying in full at booking is simpler if you would rather not think about it again. Free cancellation windows are listed on each safari page and enforced from the booking record, not from a policy paragraph.
Season matters more than most people expect
October to March is peak: the weather is the reason everybody comes, and Eid and New Year dates go first. April, May and October are shoulder — warm but fine once the sun drops. June to August is genuinely hot, the programme shortens, and prices fall accordingly.
If you are booking around Eid or New Year, book early rather than waiting for a discount that will not come.

Is a desert safari priced per person or per car?
Both models exist. Shared tours price per person. Private safaris price per vehicle, which means one figure covers the car, the driver-guide and every guest in it. Our prices are all per vehicle.
At what group size does private become cheaper?
Roughly four people. Below that, a shared per-person tour is cheaper in cash terms. At four it is close, and from five or six upwards a private vehicle is usually both cheaper and better.
Why are some Dubai desert safaris so cheap?
Because the headline number is a seat, not a trip. The common extras are hotel pickup outside a narrow zone, the camp dinner itself, quad biking, and sometimes the camp entry. A very low advertised price is a signal to read the inclusion list line by line rather than a bargain.
What currency will I be charged in?
AED. Prices shown in other currencies on this site are indicative conversions for comparison; the amount that reaches your card is in AED.
Is there a deposit, or do I pay in full?
Either. You can pay a deposit to hold the date and the balance on the day, or pay in full at booking.
Does the price change with the season?
Yes. The October to March peak is the most expensive and fills first, especially around Eid and New Year. June to August is the cheapest and the least comfortable.
What is not included, honestly?
Alcohol, gratuities, professional photography, and motorised add-ons like quad biking. Those are listed page by page rather than hidden.
