The only version of this trip worth doing

An evening safari ends when the coaches leave. An overnight safari starts then.

The reason to stay is not the tent — it is the two hours after the last day guest has gone, when the camp switches off and the sky arrives. That is the product. Everything else is logistics around it.

Who it suits

Couples. Photographers waiting for a dark-sky window. Families with older children. Anyone with a late flight who would rather spend the last night in the desert than in an airport hotel — we can drop you straight at the terminal.

Who it does not suit

Anyone who needs an ensuite bathroom, reliable air conditioning all night, or a guaranteed early departure. It is camping with beds and good food, not a hotel with a view of sand.

On dates and the moon

If dark sky is your reason for booking, the moon phase matters more than the season. Message us with your travel window before you book and we will tell you which nights are actually dark.

Questions we get asked

What is it actually like once the day guests go?

Quiet in a way that is hard to describe to anyone who has only done an evening safari. No generators after a point, no music, and enough darkness that your eyes adjust and the sky fills in.

Are the tents private?

The tent is yours. Bathrooms are shared and are a short walk across the sand, which is the honest trade-off of sleeping in a desert camp rather than a hotel.

Is it cold at night?

From November to February, genuinely cold after midnight — bring a layer beyond what the daytime suggests. Blankets are provided. In summer the nights stay warm and the tents are cooled.

Can we see the Milky Way?

On a clear night away from the moon, yes. It depends on the moon phase more than anything, so if that is your reason for coming, tell us and we will tell you which dates are worth it.

Why is the cancellation window three days?

A private tent taken out of the camp's inventory cannot be resold at short notice.
