Why the morning is underrated
Everybody books the evening. That is exactly why the morning is better if what you came for is the desert rather than the dinner.
Cooler air, firmer sand, long shadows for an hour after sunrise, and a dune belt with almost nothing else moving on it. In the evening you share the sunset ridge with other operators. In the morning you frequently do not see another vehicle.
Who it suits
Travellers on a short trip who do not want to lose an evening. Families with small children, who do a 4 a.m. wake-up better than a 10 p.m. drive home. Photographers. Anyone visiting between May and September, when the evening heat is genuinely unpleasant.
What you give up

How the trip runs
- 05:30Pickup. Earlier in summer, later in winter — your guide confirms the time the day before.
- 06:15Reach the dunes as the light comes up. Firm sand, cool air, almost nobody else out.
- 07:00Dune drive, then a photography stop while the shadows are still long.
- 08:00Sandboarding and a light breakfast.
- 09:30Drop-off. Most guests are back before the hotel breakfast closes.
Questions we get asked
Is the morning safari better than the evening one?
It is better for heat, crowds and photography, and worse for atmosphere — there is no camp dinner in the morning. If you only do one safari and you want the full evening programme, take the evening. If you are travelling with young children or in summer, take the morning.
How early is the pickup really?
Early enough that it is worth going to bed at a sensible hour. The exact time moves with sunrise across the year, and your guide confirms it the day before rather than leaving you guessing.
Is the dune driving the same?
The sand is firmer and cooler in the morning, which most drivers prefer. The route is the same permitted dune belt.
Will we be back in time for a day of sightseeing?
Yes. A morning safari is the one that fits into a short trip without writing off a whole day.
